Facebook Pages are being redesigned! The new update will include a new look-and-feel, updated navigation, the introduction of a dedicated News Feed, a new Q&A format for engaging fans and other tools and insights. Notably, the redesign will also do away with the “Like” button to instead focus on Followers — a more direct measurement of how many people a Page is currently reaching.
Instagram is testing a new way to display Stories on its desktop version, making it easier to discover Stories and scroll through them. Currently, users can only see one Story at a time for a specific profile. It sits in the middle of the screen, leaving a lot of space unused. The new design will make Story discovery and consumption a whole lot seamless and minimises the need for extra clicks.
Google is testing a new feature that will bring TikTok and Instagram videos into a carousel at the top of the Google app on mobile. This makes it incredibly easy to find and consume content from both platforms without ever opening their app.
To ring in the New Year, TikTok released its first AR filter on the new iPhone 12 Pro, using LiDAR technology, which allows them to create effects that interact with your environment – visually bridging the digital and physical worlds. This is just the first of many, with TikTok promising to “develop more innovative effects in 2021.
TikTok had recently hosted the Ratatouille musical, which was composed using hundreds of fan-made clips on the platform. What began with a short clip from Emily Jacobsen soon became a trend generating hundreds of user-generated clips, making a musical version of the original movie Ratatouille. It first debuted on New Year’s Day, and in just four days, the musical had generated over $1 million, with all proceeds going to the Actors Fund.
